So you want to get going quickly – that is absolutely understandable, and we want to help you to do it. Hopefully these tips will help:

What Editor should I use?

Actually you can use any editor you like. Notepad, Notepad++, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code – it doesn’t matter if you want to write scripts in text format. However, the Pipeline Runner Studio IDE is a project designer and runner tool which is now included in all Pipeline Runner editions. This tool can even remove the need to type commands yourself – simply select the command you want, it will ask you for any information it needs to know and will then generate the entire command and insert it into the script for you!  There are a few limitations if you haven’t bought the Pro Licence but you can always upgrade your license quickly and easily if you want to. Whatever edition you choose, using Studio will help to get you up to speed in no time… but as always it is absolutely your choice.

If you want to know more about the different version you can always Compare Pipeline Runner Editions

Where can I find the Documentation?

Regardless of the license you own, even if you Got It Free, the full documentation is available for everyone here:  Online Documentation – it is available 24/7 and no charge at all, EVER.

Are there any example scripts or projects available?

Sure. There is a good example of a complex script in the Online Documentation here: Example Script

There are also examples in the documentation for every single command. You may also find other examples on various forums, and if you have a Technical Support element as part of your license you can ask our support team for advice. Finally, if you use Pipeline Runner Studio you can get it to build your scripts for you automatically using point-and-click technology – place you cursor where you want the command to go, click the command you want, answer any questions it asks you and it will construct the script element for you and insert it!

Can I get any Technical Support?

Regardless of the type of license you hold, free technical support is always available for the following items:

  • Bug Reports – Reporting of any bugs or issues is free by simply completing the Bug Report Form online. If it turns out that the information you provide leads to a reproducible case of an error then all support relating to that bug will be absolutely free of charge.
  • Error Message Reports – Automatic error message reporting may be available within the application which if activated will let us know if an unexpected issue arises. If that issue turns out to be caused by an application issue again all support relating to that issue will be free of charge.

Otherwise you will be offered the opportunity to purchase a Commercial or Pro license that both include a technical support component. At the time of writing full Dedicated Technical Support is available for holders of a Commercial Licence, and extended technical support to those with a Pro Licence.

If I have an idea for a new feature, will you consider it?

Absolutely! Pipeline Runner only exists because people needed help becoming more effieient, starting with us and then on to our customers!

If you have an idea you would like to see incorporated in the software, please Get in Touch and we will investigate whether it is feasible for us to add it. If you can check the Online Documentation and make sure it doesn’t already exist and that it cannot be done using the Exec command before requesting a new feature, we would really appreciate it…

Can I contact you with general questions?

Of course! If you have any questions at all feel free to Get in Touch and we will do our best to assist. However, if you Got It Free and your question turns out to be a technical support issue not covered by the free support listed above you may need to upgrade your license if you would like us to support you.
